Sonny B’s take on Mayor Curry’s threat about Lot J & the Jags

I am a proud black American citizen of this great country. I along with others are doing our very best to keep it great.

I am writing this post in response to an article published by WJXT on December 1, 2020, titled,” Jacksonville Mayor: If Lot J deal doesn’t go through, NFL could drop affiliation.”

PLEASE GIVE ME A MOMENT WHILE I BUILD MY CASE. SINCE EVERYONE IS IN THE BUSINESS OF MEETING DEMANDS OF BLACK LIVES MATTER. I believe I’m asking a credible question, why should I care if the Jags stay or go?

Here is my case: I want to say from the offset, I do not condone police brutality used against any race of people, while handcuffed in police custody. However, I am in favor of forceful apprehension of citizens who do not comply with commands of police authority. It’s unfortunate, some violent criminals die in justifiable killings in the process of resisting arrest. That’s called consequences for not being a law abiding citizen.

Unjustifiable killings because of the police, should never bring more injustice. Injustice for injustice never brings about a solution.

Let’s be honest, if protests (riots) were about George Floyd, a black person being murdered, Black Lives Matter would set the world on fire for BLACK ON BLACK MURDER!!! Black on black homicides account for thousands of deaths every year across the U.S., but there is SILENCE FROM: Colin Kaepernick, Lebron James, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Snoop Dog, TI, Ice Cube, ESPN, mainstream media, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, WTA, major corporations, Hollywood, politicians, colleges, Big Tech, Al and Jesse. Again, silence from all just mentioned.

I played three sports starting at the age of 6. As an adult I became an avid supporter of all professional sports. If I missed any games, I would catch the highlights on ESPN. Now, because of the WOKE movement, I am two years removed from all professional sports and ESPN. Politics in sports has become nauseating to say the least. What am I saying? I do not want politics and social issues shoved down my throat, before, during, nor after a game.

I want to leave the political cesspool behind for a moment and enjoy sports entertainment with family and friends. I have written and I know others have written and expressed their concern for bringing politics and social issues into sports. I believe it only emboldened the social justice movement, because BLM was put on jerseys, floors, pitcher’s mounds and in commercials. This says to me, I don’t care what you think.

As a black man, I do not support the Marxist, racist BLM democratic thugs movement and never have, even from the beginning of the chaos. This is civil rights movement in reverse, we as blacks didn’t like it back then, so why are we projecting it on other races, especially the white race? It’s dead wrong, but it is tolerated as a result of white guilt and because of what their ancestors did in the past. The past is the past.

If we expect to move forward together as fellow citizens in this great country, we must remember the past, so not to repeat history, but forgive and let go of the past, to be able to heal in the present.

I digress back to the subject at hand, the Jags. We penalize and fine players and coaches for disrespecting the referees, but applaud players and coaches for disrespecting our Anthem and flag under the guise of social injustice. If they cared about justice, they would start by dealing with black on black murder, such hypocrites!!! Men and women serving our country have bled and died, so that grown, unpatriotic, selfish, and inconsiderate men and women could have the freedom to play a game. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, it’s PRINCIPLE OVER ENTERTAINMENT.

Lastly, Mayor Curry you want my support as a law abiding, tax paying citizen to support a $445 million dollar Lot J deal to keep the Jags in our city. I heard that London loves the Jags, so send them there and Shad Khan with them, or make the multi-billionaire pay for it. The NBA thought they were bigger than their fans, but after a lackluster season, Adam Silver had second thoughts for the WOKE movement. However, the damage has already been done.

I compare the NFL to the Titanic. Because of the worldwide popularity, the NFL thinks it can’t be sunk. They said the same thing about the Titanic, they got so bold, they said even God couldn’t sink the Titanic. I’m not saying God sunk the Titanic, but it did sink.

If there is not a formal and sincere apology to the patriots of this country, for the total disregard of our feelings, there can never be a mending of our relationship with professional sports. Therefore, the NFL, Jags, and all professional sports can land next to the Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic. So, Mayor Curry, that would be a no go, on keeping the Jags.
