Sunday night twitter storm with three local “leaders” proves we have a lot of growing up to do

It wasn’t a quiet Sunday night on this first Sunday of 2021. Our hopes of a better year with politicians in DC and locally were thwarted when our Mayor decided to respond to a mean-spirited tweet about his wife. Instead of leaving it alone, Mayor Curry responded with a “meet me outside” tweet. NOTE: Before we go any further, we want to say for the record that Molly Curry is a beautiful woman and the jerk who wrote this tweet is just that – a jerk!

And if that tweet tirade wasn’t bad enough, Councilman Garrett Dennis and Police Union President Steve Zona decided to jump on the bandwagon. And it went downhill from there.

Eye was contacted by numerous people who followed these tweets and their response was: Disgusting. Unprofessional. Nasty. Embarrassing.

We agree with their responses.

All three of these men involved in the tweet storm need to apologize to the community for their outlandish behaviors as “leaders” of Jacksonville. They are grown men acting like bullies in the school yard. And one of them is a police union president who should be showing citizens how to behave to keep emotions down. He had no business jumping on that band wagon and should have stayed out of it.

As for all the innuendos about “other women” — what the heck? Nice way for wives to hear rumors that may or may not be true. Good grief.

So thanks a lot guys. Our hopes are dashed for a more professional and peaceful 2021 in Jacksonville. It’s already stinking and we are only into day 3 of this year.

Will Jacksonville ever get a break and vote for grown ups to lead this city? Is that too much to ask?
