Local TV station is doing a bit of last-minute politicking for the Democrat Party

One of Jacksonville’s liberal media outlets is on a crusade to convince Jacksonville residents that they are racists.

First Coast News is running a series of editorials disguised as “news stories” that allege systemic racism.

It is a preposterous charge. It is nothing but a late-minute effort to influence the presidential election that takes place Tuesday.

The claim is that housing patterns in the city reflect some inherent racial bias. This is so ridiculous it is difficult to unpack, but here are the main points.

Somehow zoning is supposed to be related to “redlining,” which is another liberal accusation of dubious merit.

They claim entire areas of a city have been denied lending by financial institutions because of the skin color of the residents.

The only reason people are denied loans is because they are poor financial risks.

Liberals can’t have it both ways. They can’t claim that capitalists are greedy, evil people who would sell their souls to the devil for a buck and then claim that they would not lend money to people if they can earn a profit from the transaction.

Then, in the TV station’s own words, they admit the practice, if it existed, was done by the federal government during the New Deal – a period when Democrats controlled the government and instituted socialist policies that persist to this day.

In the case of redlining, however, the station says the policy ended more than 50 years ago! Yet, the station insists, somehow it still has some kind of effect on some people today.

People are poor because some other people couldn’t get loans 50-plus years ago?

As for zoning, that also is a creature of government. Your neighbors don’t zone your house; the local government does. If anyone is racist, it is the politicians elected by the people.

Again, as the stories acknowledge, the lending and zoning practices in Jacksonville are identical to those in cities throughout the nation.

It also tries to tie the topics into another liberal myth – that of “white flight.” This is the alleged exodus of white people from inner cities to escape black neighbors.

In reality, they were escaping crime, congestion and pollution. And anyone who examines the data will find that black families have done the same as they gained middle-class status.

It is all “social justice” nonsense and it is timed to influence an election in which one political party is trying to paint the other party as racist and to instill envy.

As one of America’s leading economists, Dr. Thomas Sowell – who has black skin – has been quoted as saying: “Envy was considered one of the seven deadly sins before it became one of the most admired virtues under its new name– SOCIAL JUSTICE.”

It cannot be coincidence that the station is running this propaganda at the same time a special committee of the City Council is engaging in an effort to seek social justice and has yet to produce any example of social injustice.

The least the TV station could do is run this tripe as editorials, not try to pawn it off as news stories meant to inform the public. Rather, they are intended to persuade the public – of something that is not true.
