Just when you think JEA is getting back to work—and out of the headlines… here we go again.
Now the State Attorney’s Office has issued a subpoena to JEA—seeking internal emails, texts, and communications involving leadership, board members, and even a lobbying firm tied to former Mayor Lenny Curry.
A subpoena isn’t routine. It means something serious enough has triggered prosecutors to step in.
So… why?
What are they really looking for—undue influence, pressure, culture issues… or all of the above?
And maybe the bigger question: why does it always take a subpoena to get transparency?
We’ve seen this movie before. Different cast, same script. And every time, it comes back to one thing—governance.
JEA already has the playbook. The board governs. Management manages. Politics stays out. It’s all spelled out in their own governance policies—sitting right there on their website.
So why not follow them?
Is this accountability… or politics spilling into places it doesn’t belong?
Either way, Jacksonville taxpayers deserve better.
We don’t need another investigation.
We need a utility that runs clean, transparent, and drama-free.
Because if governance were working…
We wouldn’t be here. Again.
