FLORIDA DRIVERS: BEWARE OF NEW TEXT MESSAGE SCAM

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has issued an urgent warning about a widespread scam targeting Florida drivers.

Scammers are sending fake text messages claiming you have an unpaid traffic ticket and threatening to suspend your license or vehicle registration unless you click a link and pay immediately.

DON’T FALL FOR IT

  • FLHSMV does NOT send payment requests by text.
  • The messages are fraudulent and designed to steal your personal and financial info.
  • These scams rely on fear and urgency to trick unsuspecting recipients.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

  • Do NOT click any suspicious links.
  • Do NOT share personal or payment information via text.
  • DO report the message to your local law enforcement.

If you’re ever unsure about a notice involving your license, always contact FLHSMV directly through their official website: www.flhsmv.gov
