Are we too late? Can we fix politics?

I’ve only been involved in politics since 2008 when President George Bush bailed out the banks while my entrepreneurial CEOs were fighting to stay in business. That was when I “woke.”

My personal awakening about the political world changed my world.

Somehow doors opened for me to walk through to places of leadership in the tea party movement; on national TV networks (yes at CNN too); speaking at events across the nation; accepting an award for the tea party movement from the prestigious Heritage Institute; and standing on a network stage where we co-hosted the CNN Tea Party Presidential Debate. Those years were a whirlwind and I did nothing to open those doors. God did it all.

I walked through them in pure oblivion as to the dangerous road that walk would take me on. I had no idea how evil and wicked our political parties had become. Had I known, I would have run in the opposite direction. I believe God doesn’t reveal all His plans for our life because it would be too scary to walk into the valley of the shadow of death. Instead we go blindly through the valley with Him. That was my experience and since I “woke” I’ve tried to go back to sleep and let others stand watch but…

Once awake, always awake.

I write this morning to my fellow Americans out of great concern that politics is so broken and I fear we may not be able to fix it and your “woke” is needed.

I read this article and it pierced me. In a nutshell, it’s about House Democrats “selling” committee seats for money. Yes — selling seats in the House of Representatives for prestigious seats on committees.

It pierced me because just this week I had lunch with a sweet man who has given much of his wealth to political candidates — good ones — honest ones — because he believes his wealth can benefit our nation by sending good people to places of power so we can fix this mess in America. His contributions were given to win campaigns and in campaigns, you need money! It’s hard to win without money since the left has so much of it.

He recently spoke to someone in a high profile political office and asked if he could help him be considered for a seat on a board where he has expertise. He didn’t know how to navigate the process so he was seeking help to understand it. Here’s what he was told, “That board seat will cost you $50,000.”

He was stunned. He was mortified. He was shocked. Never in a million years would he consider paying money to be on a public board in service to the public. He told the individual…

“Forget it. I do not want to be considered. I simply wanted to serve.”

Could he afford to pay $50,000? Yes. Why didn’t he? Because he was disgusted and ashamed that politics had ruined what community service is all about.

Friends, politicians know how to play the game. They set up PACs and if you give to their PACs, you just might be considered for prestigious positions on boards of significance. And those boards make decisions about your every day life.

Think JEA.

If you want to be “woke” too, all you have to do is go to your favorite politician’s PAC and see who gives to them. Then go and take a look to see if any of them have been appointed to boards or been given special deals on state, city or national projects. Special deals you will never get unless you “sponsor a candidate.”

On this Sunday morning I’ve been asking God what the heck we can do about this situation. He has been very quiet. I’m so human and I just want to see his scroll with the strategy on it to end this Pay to Play situation in our country. But I know He’s up to his old tricks and he’s preparing us for another blind walk in that valley once more. We will not open the necessary doors, but He will. And I believe He is going to do just that because there is so much corruption all around us and it’s so deep. Without a doubt it will take a miracle to fix it.

It’s a good thing I believe in miracles.

Friends, we can fix politics through Him who calls us to shine a light on the darkness of politics, expose it and PRAY. Without those three things, politics will continue to corrupt our culture and freedom will slowly — then suddenly — pass away.

If you can’t shine a light or expose the corruption – you can PRAY. Please do PRAY and if you will throw in a little more prayers for those who are shining the light and exposing corruption – that would be great! It’s a little scary at times doing the exposing and shining the light and your prayers are coveted.

God bless you and please God — will you bless America once again?
