History revisionists are all in now, after their success in taking down a monument to war widows and children.
What is the end game? Could it be changing the city’s name?
That’s not out of the realm of possibility.
The very representation of the city, emblazoned on the city seal, is a statue of Andrew Jackson located downtown and it is a target of the history-wrecking coalition.
Another indicator: they want to rename Andrew Jackson High School, after succeeding in changing the name of another of the city’s oldest high schools, that had been named for Gen. Robert E. Lee.
God only knows what the city’s new name would be. Obamaville?
Jackson, ironically, was a Democrat, and the revision of the city’s history is being led by Democrats, with a few weak-kneed Republicans following.
Jackson was the seventh president of the United States. Before that, he was famous as a general in the U.S. Army and served in both houses of Congress. He won praise for his work in preserving the union, survived the first assassination attempt on a sitting president and helped invent the Democrat Party.
It was the Democrat Party that supported slavery and segregation and kept black voters suppressed for decades before realizing they could get their votes with a new strategy – allowing them to vote while pretending to favor Americans with black skin. It worked.
Now the party sees a need to erase its previous history in an all too familiar method laid out in the novel 1984 by George Orwell. One character’s job in the “Ministry of Truth” was revising history and flushing unwanted history down the “memory hole.”
They have had some success.
The Confederate Monument in Johnson Park, erected 1898, was taken down in 2020.
The Monument to the Women of the Southland in Springfield Park was erected in 1915 and taken down last week.
Among historical items on public property that remain targets of the revisionists.
Grandstand – Confederate Memorial Services in the Old City Cemetery since 1926.
Historic Markers:
- Maple Leaf (Union transport ship sunk by Confederate mine) on the Northbank Riverwalk.
- Maple Leaf in Walter Jones Historical Park.
- Florida Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Home 1893 – 1938, Old City Cemetery.
- Line of Entrenchment – Federal occupation force, Attached to the old Jacksonville Terminal (Prime Osborn Convention Center) in 1931.
- 1914 United Confederate Veteran’s Reunion, Confederate Park in Springfield
- Camp Milton Historic Preserve – 23 informational signs and 58 tree signs at 1225 Halsema Road North.
- In Memory of Our Beloved Ancestors – in Old City Cemetery.
Once all these historical records are obliterated, changing the city’s name could be the next step for the history-book-burners.
This apparently would entail action by the Florida Legislature and approval by Jacksonville voters, but the emboldened revisionists would not be daunted by such hurdles.
2024 will be exciting enough with war, crime, open borders, a fragile economy and all the rest burdening the nation. Locally, an effort to change the city’s nearly two-century-old name would only add to the turmoil.
But as those familiar with the Cloward-Piven strategy know, chaos and turmoil are political instruments to those unhappy with America as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

“History-wrecking coalition”. Just who are they and why are they? This coalition wields enough influence and power to literally eradicate all signs and names in history. All we ever hear is the term “coalition”. What do they expect to change? And, possibly the largest and most important question is who is allowing this and even fighting for it. I smell liberal politicians, who prostitute themselves and their influence to gain a damn vote. Then lie hoping no one will pay attention except their clients. For what end is all this? Nothing changes no one is better off other than the power brakers and pimps of politicians.
I am maybe two or three days after the fact but I’ll try to say my piece as well.
Last mayor that I really liked was Ed Austin. Of course then we had the warmer mayor Lenny Curry who was just a snake in the grass who would go anything or anyone just to get his money in his. Of course now you have the coup de gras, the new Mayor, Deegan, a died-in-the-wall neo-Marxist. When and if we can have a conservative/traditional/Western civilizationist Mayor, they should have all the statues reacted have them in a place of honor- literally and figuratively.
