Jacksonville’s 2027 mayoral race just got a little more interesting.
State Rep. Wyman Duggan officially announced Friday that he is running for mayor of Jacksonville, filing his paperwork at the Duval County Supervisor of Elections office. He will be among the candidates seeking to challenge Mayor Donna Deegan, who is running for a second term.
Duggan, a Republican, is a Jacksonville native, attorney and former Marine Corps Reserve officer who has served in the Florida House since 2018.
His opening campaign message focused heavily on affordability, City Hall spending, basic services and Jacksonville’s neighborhoods.
“When I talk to people across this city, I hear the same thing over and over again,” Duggan said. “They love Jacksonville. They believe in Jacksonville. But too often they don’t feel like City Hall is working for them.”
He also took direct aim at recent problems involving Jacksonville’s independent authorities, particularly JTA, arguing that the mayor needs to take a stronger leadership role when those agencies run into trouble.
Duggan says he wants the city to put more attention—and more of its resources—into the neighborhoods where Jacksonville residents “live, work, worship and raise our families.”
And with that, the Jacksonville mayor’s race is officially heating up.
