Why do we celebrate Labor Day?

Most of us will have Labor Day off this coming Monday.  Many of us believe it is a celebration of the end of summer but it has so much more meaning than that.

Labor Day is a celebration of American workers and their tremendous contributions to the nation’s success. Originating in the late 19th century, when workers were pushing for fair treatment and better working conditions, this day marks a significant milestone in recognizing the value of hard work. The inaugural Labor Day in 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union in New York City, was more than just a day off; it was a powerful expression of unity and progress. It showcased the workers’ dedication and their crucial role in building America’s economic strength.
