Florida’s skies just got a little more protection. Thanks to a new state law, geoengineering and weather-modification activities — sometimes called “cloud seeding” or “chem-trailing” — are now illegal in Florida.
Under Senate Bill 56, it’s against the law for anyone to release or disperse chemicals, compounds, or devices into the atmosphere for the purpose of altering the weather, temperature, or climate. The goal is simple: to keep Florida’s air clean, our clouds natural, and our sunshine unfiltered by man-made tinkering.
Those caught breaking the law could face felony charges and fines up to $100,000. The law also requires the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to track and investigate citizen reports of suspected sky tampering.
So yes — the sky may not be falling, but if you spot suspicious streaks, heavy haze trails, or unusual aircraft activity that just doesn’t look like Mother Nature’s work, you can now do something about it.
