Memorial Day: Let us honor those who paid the ultimate price

Memorial Day is not simply a holiday; it is a day to show deep respect and gratitude for the courageous individuals who answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice. These heroes, from every branch of the military, exemplify the true meaning of service and devotion to our nation.

In the words of former President John F. Kennedy on Memorial Day 1962, “Americans may not only pay tribute to our honored dead but also unite in prayer for success in our search for a just and lasting peace.”

Who would have known that the hands of an assassin would just one-year later take President Kennedy’s life and our country reeled from the loss of a great man who was devoted to peace in America.

On this Memorial Day, let us remember the other extraordinary peace-seekers, men and women who have laid down their lives in defense of our liberty. We recall their bravery, their commitment to duty, and their love for our great country.

As we pay tribute to our fallen heroes, let us also recognize the families they left behind. They, too, have made sacrifices and endured the pain of losing their loved ones. It is our duty to support and honor them, ensuring they know that their loved ones’ sacrifice will never be forgotten.

If you want to participate in the local Memorial Day Ceremony, you can do so on Monday, May 27th at 8:00-10:00 a.m. – 1145 East Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

The Veterans Memorial Wall is located between TIAA Bank Field and the baseball grounds.

During this ceremony, a wreath will represent each of the military branches, as will the fallen service members whose names are being added to the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall this year.

Parking is free.
