The Fourth is on Saturday, but unfurl your Betsy Ross, Gadsden flag and Old Glory today! 244 years ago, July 2nd, 1776, the Founders, with the strength of their wives and families, officially voted to separate from our government, Great Britain, the world’s greatest military power. Independence!
How important was liberty to Americans in the 18th century? Enough to commit treason in the eyes of King George and with the knowledge that their capture would mean execution by hanging. But Americans, with their fortunes and lives at stake, determined that tyranny and oppression must come to an end.
From the death of Crispus Attucks in 1770 at the Boston Massacre until the victory at Yorktown in 1781, and subsequent peace treaty two years later, America suffered unspeakable bloodshed, torment and destruction to earn the liberty we have inherited today.
What are your feelings about America in 2020? Are you among those despondent over the flouting of the rule of law by violent mobs and their enabling elected officials? Does the scope of government intrude into your privacy and beliefs? Is social media hysteria insulting your common sense and decency? 244 years after independence, do you, in fact, feel tyrannized and oppressed?
Perhaps what America needs right now is an overdue dose of American liberty. Liberty to speak up and not fear the consequences. Liberty to not apologize for our opinions. To defend our rights and those of our neighbor. And yes, to throw out the weak elected leadership that give quarter to the America haters so vocal in popular culture. This Fourth of July 2020, let liberty begin to be heard and felt once again by the American people.
Well, start with that flag! Post it proudly today and represent it in your daily actions. Defend it with respect and speak the truth of America unwaveringly at every opportunity. Liberty is worth fighting for. Let America know that her patriots are here to defend her.
