It’s always nice to hear good news coming from politicians and especially when those politicians are from your neck of the woods!
Today Governor Ron DeSantis — a former local attorney, turned Congressman and now Florida’s Governor — announced that he would be pushing the Florida Legislature to raise the minimum starting salary for teachers to $47,500. This is fantastic news! Teachers are raising the next generation of leaders and need to feel we care about them and support their efforts. Teachers are vitally important to our future!
AND…more good news.
Congressman John Rutherford’s STOP School Violence Act provides federal grant funding to local school districts to improve security in their facilities. We are pleased to announce Duval County Public Schools were awarded $500,000 to improve security measures through the Community Oriented Policing Service grant. That’s great news for our children. Our former Sheriff understands the importance of keeping our children safe at school and we appreciate him doing what he can to help our schools with this important initiative.
Both of these “politicians” deserve a WINK from Eye on Jacksonville. One for the great news for our schools and one for remembering what their job is all about.
