GOP legislators are better at limiting government

Members of the Duval Delegation in the Florida Legislature got high rankings from a national organization for limiting government.

The ranking was done by the Institute of Legislative Analysis.

Those ranking high were Rep. Kiyah Michael, 80.38 percent; Rep. Jessica Baker, 79.80 percent; Rep. Dean Black, 79.61 percent; Rep. Wyman Duggan, 79.57 percent and Sen. Clay Yarborough, 75.82 percent. All are Republicans. Black is chairman of the local GOP.

Delegation members with low scores include Sen. Tracie Davis, 31.71 percent and Rep. Angie Nixon, 14.44 percent. Both are Democrats.

Republicans in both houses scored considerably higher than Democrats.

The votes on selected issues are designed to serve as clear reflectors of how a lawmaker views the role of government, according to the institute.
