Former superintendent has found his niche

Nickolai Vitti, former school superintendent in Duval County, has become a staunch advocate of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in his current gig as the school superintendent in Detroit.

That’s not surprising.

He was a liberal here, dedicated to indoctrinating, rather than educating, local children enrolled in government schools.

He told one reporter that he had long ago decided “the greatest vehicle for social justice and transformation, at scale, was public education.”

He came to Jacksonville from Miami in 2012 and left in less than five years to go to the school system in Detroit, the city where he was born.

In that utterly failed, Democrat-run city, he fits like a glove.

“Our curriculum is deeply using critical race theory, especially in social studies, but you’ll find it in English language arts and the other disciplines,” Vitti said at a November board of education meeting.

“We were very intentional about creating a curriculum, infusing materials, and embedding critical race theory within our curriculum.”

Obviously, the local school board made a wise move in getting rid of Vitti.

The objective now should be to ensure that the divisive, anti-American program of CRT does not seep into the public schools of Jacksonville.

The Florida House has passed a bill to prevent teaching CRT in schools.

“I think what you see now with the rise of this ‘woke’ ideology is an attempt to really delegitimize our history and delegitimize our institutions,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis. “They want to tear the fabric of our society, and our culture, and a lot of things we’ve taken for granted, like the ability of parents to raise their children.”

But Vitti’s comments indicate the insidious nature of CRT. Government schools don’t have to adopt formal curriculum to spread its hateful message. Individual teachers can instill it into young minds in various ways.

CRT is the opposite of what the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. espoused. He said skin color should not matter. To CRT proponents, it is the only thing that matters. People with one color skin are all victims and people with a different color skin are all oppressors. As a result, America’s laws, institutions and economic system must change.

For liberals, it has become a form of religion.

Social norms and restraints on government such as the Constitution of the United States are mere constructs that must be removed in order for CRT to succeed, liberals believe fervently.

That may be what they want in Detroit, but it is not for Jacksonville or any city populated by Americans.
