Much to the chagrin of Democrats and their media, the Florida Legislature and governor reached agreement this week on immigration, resolving minor policy differences.
The media had made much of the “feud” without acknowledging how Democrats have fought over legislation in the past.
There was a miscue over a misguided effort to put the agriculture commissioner in charge of immigration. But it was resolved by the realization that it made no sense. Instead, they created a council to handle the matter.
Legislative leaders said, “We are building on the technical assistance from the White House to advance and implement strong policies and provide critical resources to support President Trump’s efforts to combat illegal immigration efficiently and effectively,” the proclamation said. “We are proud that over the last few weeks conversations and debate within the Legislature on these issues have been civil and respectful.
“By working together with the governor towards a shared goal, these proposals and appropriations ensure Florida continues to lead by example with the strongest crackdown on illegal immigration in the nation.”
DeSantis praised lawmakers for coming to a compromise.
“Requiring state and local participation in federal immigration enforcement, making it a crime to enter Florida illegally, and ending catch-and-release of criminal aliens – all great policies and I’m happy to see the Florida Legislature stepping up to get the job done,” DeSantis said.
With the agreement, the legislature addressed three bills in a short special session.
One would increase penalties upon those who enter Florida illegally. Another would call for a mandatory death penalty for invaders who commit murder or child rape. The last would codify the state’s relationship with federal agencies that handle illegal immigration.
The bills easily passed Thursday and were signed by the governor.
Rather than act in knee-jerk fashion like Democrats, the Republican legislature works through issues and selects those policies that will best serve Florida residents.
One response to “Family feud is over”
This “family feud” provided Jacksonville with some valuable insights regarding how Tallahassee works and where our elected officials stand.
How it works is simple . . . the office holder with the biggest political stick wins (that is if they don’t get stupid).
The winner in this “family feud” was da’ Gov. He was on the right (errrrr, correct) side of the issue and he had the biggest stick. Might have done some things differently but his agenda ruled the day.
The losers in this Family Feud were: Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson, Speaker of the House Daniel Perez, President of the Senate Ben Albritton, Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power, and our own State Representative Dean Black.
They were on the wrong side of the issue. They used false narratives to advocate for their issue. They blackmailed the Representatives and Senators they lead into voting for their disgraceful legislation that sold out the citizens of Florida and President Trump.
Simpson was expected to run for Governor . . . he’s done.
Perez and Albritton are termed out . . . they’re done.
Power may last for some time but not for long given the rising Red Tide caused by his Establishment Politics tyranny.
Black is the only that can run again . . . but . . . the rotten core of his politics and lack of integrity that came to light as Duval REC Chair has been reaffirmed by his supporting these RINO Mutineers . . . result: expect him to get Primaried.
As for the rest of the Duval Delegation that voted for this nonsense . . . the tyrannical blackmailing that took place gives you cover so you’ve got some explaining to do. Make it good.
Last but not least . . . “props” to Kiyan Michael for standing with da’ Gov.
