A Florida-based nonprofit, Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF), has joined United Sovereign Americans in filing a lawsuit aimed at addressing election integrity concerns. The case, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, targets issues regarding the certification of federal and state elections in the state.
The lawsuit names both Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland as defendants. Central to the case is the claim that Florida violated the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 during the 2022 elections by exceeding the permissible number of voting system errors. HAVA, a federal law, allows only 63 vote-counting errors per 125,000 ballots. The lawsuit alleges that the number of errors in Florida far surpassed this limit, making the election certification invalid.
CDF, along with other plaintiffs, points to serious issues such as illegal duplicate registrations, questionable voter histories, and invalid registration data as evidence of voting system errors. These alleged errors could potentially undermine both state and federal elections, including the upcoming 2024 elections.
The lawsuit calls for the court to compel the defendants to address and correct these errors before the November election to ensure future electoral integrity. Sarah Calamunci, CDF’s Chief of Staff, emphasized the significance of safeguarding election processes to ensure fair and accurate results for all registered voters.
While the lawsuit is seen as a step to protect election integrity, CDF clarifies that it is a non-partisan organization focused on transparency and does not endorse political candidates. Established in 2021, CDF is committed to defending individual liberties and ensuring local government accountability.
With ongoing expansions in Florida, Georgia, and Texas, Citizens Defending Freedom is rapidly growing into a national force in political activism, particularly in the fight for fair elections.
