Local liberal media continue to support crime and endanger both police and public.
Encouraging people to disrespect authority and resist arrest causes encounters in which simple traffic infractions result in felony arrests, injuries and even death.
The latest example is a story in a local liberal media outlet casting doubt on police statistics related to arrests. We won’t name the outlet because we don’t want to encourage readership.
In the liberal press, the criminal often is the victim, and the police are the offenders.
The story carries the nonsensical headline: “JSO seldom punishes cops accused of abuse“
This suggests that not enough officers are fired for being accused of using excessive force.
This fantasy is based on what the reporter claims is a low number of cases in which officers are disciplined.
First, who says the numbers are “low”?
What gives the reporters and editors the authority to determine that the sheriff’s office is not investigating the incidents fairly? Or that suspects always are in the right?
And why on Earth should an officer be fired for being accused? How about finding him guilty first?
They are entitled to their opinion but they are stating these things as facts.
This is all fuel for lawyers who make millions of dollars by filing lawsuits against the police. Many of those cases probably could be defended but government lawyers often choose to pay a settlement rather than defend them strenuously.
The problem it causes is further disregard for authority and to instill the feeling in some people that they are not required to follow instructions from police officers. Instead, they question, defy and resist.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of videos on YouTube depict citizens choosing to argue and fight rather than accept a ticket and go home.
In this latest fake news story, a particularly bad example is used as evidence of police brutality. It involves a young man defying and resisting police and receiving very minor injuries during a struggle.
From our perspective, the local figures on response to resistance show far too much resistance, rather than too many examples of police acting improperly. In addition, it appears that the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is not lax in taking disciplinary action, including firing officers who break the rules.
It is irresponsible for the media and politicians to promote criminal activity and coddle criminals.
