In the increasingly authoritarian atmosphere pervading America, many are beginning to ask: What to do when the federal government comes knocking at your door?
In a video conference with a group of Jacksonville residents asking that question, local attorney Daniel Bean provided some answers.
Rule 1. Don’t talk to them alone.
If it is the FBI or other member of law enforcement with a warrant, allow them to execute the warrant — either submitting to arrest peacefully or allowing them to search the premises, depending on the type of warrant.
Otherwise, advise them you have nothing to say and advise them that your attorney will speak to them.
They are not your friends and they are not there to make friends.
A key piece of advice from Bean is this: “They are allowed to lie to you, but you are not allowed to lie to them.” And making an inaccurate statement can be construed as a lie.
Former Gen. Michael Flynn made the mistake of talking to the FBI. He wasn’t even under oath yet he was charged with lying because they couldn’t make any other charge stick. Flynn pled guilty after nearly being bankrupted for legal fees and facing a threat to involve one of his children as well.
He recounted some of his experience to Eye on Jacksonville in a recent visit to the city.
Another tip: You are on your own property. You are free to record the intrusion and any discussion that takes place. However, you should tell them they are being recorded.
The FBI, which has been weaponized by the Biden Administration, along with most other government apparatus, recently grabbed one Republican in an airport and slapped him in handcuffs, although he literally lived a block from FBI headquarters and would have surrendered to them peacefully if he had been asked.
Recently, the IRS got another 87,000 agents. It wasn’t to help you with your taxes. The Democrat Congress is investigating everyone and anyone who opposes Joe Biden, while ignoring apparently real crimes by Biden’s son.
This Democrat administration also staged a raid on a former Republican president’s home, the first time in history a sitting president has raided the home of a potential opponent. It was a naked display of attempted intimidation.
If they can do that to a former president, do not ever assume that you are not subject to the same kind of abuse. Know and use your rights.
Also have the wisdom to hire a lawyer. Anyone who tries to be his own lawyer has a fool for a client.
