Software glitch during election does not appear to be malicious

State officials and the vendor supplying phone service to elections offices said a cyber attack was not the reason for a glitch that occurred soon after the polls closed in Tuesday’s primary election.

Nearly all of the 67 counties in Florida, including Duval, were unable to upload vote totals to the state’s website.

The problem prevented websites from having the results posted. It did not affect voting or vote counting. People checking local election websites couldn’t access results as they were received.

An alternative website was set up to post links to each county, where the totals could be found.

Local Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland said the reporting of totals to the state’s website was slowed but in his office the totals were printed and given to local media.

Holland said Tuesday’s turnout was slightly lower than four years ago, but there also were fewer races on the ballot.
