Lloyd “Scoop” Brown has been writing on Eye on Jacksonville about the lack of arrests locally. It’s a big issue and one that we hope Sheriff Mike Williams will look into.

Today I read that men are “having fun” with themselves in the library and many incidents have been reported. Yet very few arrests have been made. The reason: If they are clothed, they can’t be arrested. They can only be banned from the library.

What the heck is going on with our laws? This is an outrage.

As a mom to two grown children, I vividly remember an incident that happened when they were young. I lived in Arlington at the time and had just pulled into Albertson’s parking lot. A man was in a car across from our parking space and he was having a lot of fun with himself. My daughter asked me, “What’s that man doing, Mommy?” I mumbled something and ran around the mini van to pull them out and run inside the store. That was the days when cell phones didn’t exist. I told the store manager about the man and he called the police. We stood inside the store and watched and waited for the police to show up. They did. When they approached the car, he was fully clothed and they told him to exit the car. He zipped up his pants and exited the car. They threw him against the car and arrested him. He was put inside the police cruiser and taken down town for booking. His image even showed up in the local newspaper. I am sure he was ashamed of himself.

What has changed? A man inside a library playing fondly with himself twenty years later is allowed to leave the library and move on to another one or a park or a gas station or a bathroom in a restaurant.

If we wonder what the heck is going on in our country, take a look at the laws and the law makers and you will find out. We are letting criminals and sick people off the hook. If they were treated as criminals, maybe the world would be a better place to raise our children.
