I knew the late Jimmy Carter, and he was no George Washington.
Libs are trying to make him so, only because of their acute Trump Derangement Syndrome.
“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” president-elect Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!”
Trump was far more gracious.
“The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.”
“Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter family and their loved ones during this difficult time,” he added. “We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers.”
Libs want to beatify Carter, as if he were far superior to the man who replaced him, Ronald Reagan.
This is a fair assessment of Carter as president.
But most would agree he was a nice guy.
I met him at a civic club breakfast in a motel on Lane Avenue in 1976. Since he had declared himself a candidate for president, I went to see what he was all about and we wound up sitting at the same table and chatting over bacon and eggs.
He had the humility thing down pat and his recitation of his record as Georgia governor and how he would act in the White House sounded pretty good. He also did his shtick that he repeated over and over in his campaign, about how government should be “as good as the American people.”
Like most good politicians he had a good memory. I happened to know that he had sought training from a memory expert in Jacksonville that I knew. Every time I saw Carter on the campaign trail he would say hello.
I also found out the slightly weird fact that he had an ongoing correspondence with movie star Mae West and asked him about it on one occasion. He gallantly withheld details but acknowledged it was true.
His campaign was marred by the revolt in Afghanistan and stagflation, and even though he was a former Navy officer, he “hollowed out” the military, but he did make an effort to bring about a little peace in the Mideast and he worked hard at building homes for the poor after leaving office.
It is unfortunate that Democrats are seeking to use his death as a weapon against Trump but not at all out of character. They have tried everything else, and failed.
