Eye on Jacksonville is pleased to give a BIG FAT WINK to the Jacksonville Civic Council for the great research and final product of their work regarding the potential sale of JEA. For those of you who do not know about this group, you can find out more about them here: http://www.jaxciviccouncil.com/
The Jacksonville Civic Council’s Commitment is stated below:
The Jacksonville Civic Council leverages the combined talents, experience and influence of a diverse group of business and civic leaders to accomplish goals that no individual or organization in our community can achieve alone. Established in 2010 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, the Civic Council brings together chief executives from the nonprofit, business and government sectors to make Jacksonville the best city it can be.
Working transparently and with no agenda, for the good of our community, the Civic Council strategically identifies crucial issues, conducts research, and identifies — and advocates for — solutions that will result in positive change. Our members deploy their collective resources throughout the process, remaining focused on the goal of a Jacksonville that is vibrant, growing, sustainable and responsive to the needs of its people.
During the 18 month study about JEA status, the Civic Council uncovered many discrepancies in the talking points used by JEA to fast track a potential sale. A letter was sent to JEA exposing their lack of transparency in the process and a list of other information they uncovered such as “JEA is NOT in a death spiral.”
We could not be more pleased at Eye with this information and we appreciate the hard work the Civic Council put into this study. Eye was formed to Encourage Transparency and Integrity and Expose Corruption and Cronyism and having the Jacksonville Civic Council agree with our mission makes for a great day at Eye!
We will now wait and see how this all plays out. JEA is our city’s biggest asset and the sale of it should not be taken lightly OR used as a political pawn.
Please note: Lloyd Brown will be doing a deep dive into the report and we will have more about the details of their findings soon. Keep checking back for more!
