Is treating everyone the same a crazy idea?

Here’s a radical idea for government schools. Instead of teaching black history and white history, why not try teaching American history?

A special task force proposes that the Jacksonville public schools “embed” black history into the history curriculum. What does that even mean?

What it should mean is that history will be taught without focusing on skin color.

Why is it that liberals can’t embrace the words and deeds of a great American, whose basic message was that skin color did not matter?

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character,” Martin Luther King, Jr. said.

King’s message was of non-violence and equal opportunity.

King certainly would not have approved of the riots throughout American cities by a Marxist organization concerned only with the lives of people with a certain skin color.

“The limitation of riots, moral questions aside, is that they cannot win and their participants know it. Hence, rioting is not revolutionary but reactionary because it invites defeat. It involves an emotional catharsis, but it must be followed by a sense of futility.”

But the time for abandoning hostility never is right for liberals. Keeping people race conscious is politically advantageous to them and they would rather use it to gain power and control than to do what is right. People always are judged by liberals according to the color of their skin.

When will that change?

“The time is always right to do what is right,” King said.

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”

Virtually everything King said was based on the notion that people should not be treated differently because of their skin color. Separate drinking fountains did that. So do separate histories, separate treatment in college admissions and separate rules for gaining employment.

Rather than being called “Americans,” people with black skin always are called “African-Americans” by liberals. Why? They live in America. Most never have been to Africa, and definitely are not citizens of Africa. You cannot be a citizen of a continent.

If schools just taught history, children would begin to lose sight of the fact that some people in our history had different color skins.

Eventually, they would reject the absurd claim that people today are oppressed because some other people 150 years ago were oppressed.

Kids are not stupid. Schools should teach facts, not indoctrinate, and let children figure it out for themselves.

As King said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
