As one local newspaper in town continues to decline in size and impact and, some say, quality, it struggles to stay woke.

A recent check showed it had nine reporters to cover a city of 1 million people.

At one time, it had about 36 reporters to cover a city with a half-million population. (This tally does not include sportswriters but does include columnists.)

In those pre-internet days, circulation was about 10 times the current figure.

For 140 years it was a conservative paper and was recognized as one of the largest and most influential in Florida. Almost overnight it became Far Left as it fell into the hands of the largest newspaper chain in the nation. Its reporters also joined a union, a change that had failed in the 1950s and hadn’t been mentioned afterward until the recent event.

It has been downhill since.

Like most on the far side of the political spectrum, the paper fervently pledges allegiance to diversity, inclusion and equity.

Yet photos of the nine reporters reveal all are pale faces. One is rather dark, but it appears to be because of an underexposed photo, not related to the level of melanin. Presumably that is not a deliberate deception.

Rent-a-reporters are available now. Various left-of-center sources are offering to supplement salaries of people if they will work for newspapers and help spread the gospel of the Left. Surely the local daily can find enough cut-rate reporters who have the correct skin color and sexual preferences necessary to meet their self-imposed quotas.
