Here come the Equity Police again

Just when the government schools didn’t need any more silliness, the Parent-Teacher Association comes out with a broadside against dress codes.

This liberal organization, long past any usefulness it once had, is “woke” and will brook no attempt to tell children how to dress, it seems.

Duval County Public Schools has a dress code that attempts to reduce distractions in the schools.

Doubtless it could be improved, but the PTA version of what is proper is not the direction it should take.

The PTA complains that the dress code is “subjective.” Then it demands that it be replaced with the PTA’s own subjective language.

The tipoff is the paragraph in its resolution declaring the code “has been applied, and most significantly, certain specific Dress Code provisions apply, to clothing and accessories predominantly worn by students of certain genders, races, and religions, impacting these students differentially and inequitably.”

“Equity” is a new code word for liberals, used to enforce their own zany idea of how the world should operate.

Anything that is “inequitable” – such as people being paid different salaries – must be stamped out immediate. Why shouldn’t a burger flipper earn the same as a brain surgeon?

Some of the demands are to:

  • Permit head coverings
  • Permit tank tops
  • Remove language used to effectively ban shorts and leggings without oversized coverings, namely “form-fitting”, “overly tight”, “disruptive or distractive”
  • Remove subjective language and prohibitions on clothing and accessories associated predominantly with certain genders, religions, races, and racial stereotypes, including but not limited to “form-fitting”, “overly tight”, “distracting”, and “neat and clean”.

How urging students to be neat and clean could be construed as injustice is far beyond Eye on Jacksonville’s ability to comprehend.

But we have serious doubts that revising the dress code to suit the PTA will “promote the physical and mental health and well-being” of students as the PTA claims.

Staying free of Critical Race Theory and other liberal devices is the best remedy for what ails the government schools.
