Former Mayoral Candidate Leanna Cumber Joins Citizens Property Insurance Board of Governors, Aiming to Tackle Affordability Crisis in Florida

Former Jacksonville mayoral candidate, Leanna Cumber, has been appointed to the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation Board of Governors. The appointment was made by Speaker of the House, Paul Renner, and has garnered significant attention due to the critical role that Citizens plays in the state’s insurance landscape.

The Florida Legislature established Citizens Property Insurance Corporation in August 2002 to serve as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt government entity. Its mission is to provide property insurance to eligible Florida property owners who are unable to secure coverage in the private market. The organization operates based on the principle that every homeowner should have access to insurance protection, regardless of market conditions.

A Board of Governors, responsible for overseeing the organization’s activities and decisions, governs the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation. This board operates under the guidelines established by the Florida Legislature and administers a Plan of Operation approved by the Florida Financial Services Commission. The Commission itself is composed of the Governor, Chief Financial Officer, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Agriculture.

Speaker Paul Renner expressed his confidence in Leanna Cumber’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the board: “Leanna is a leader who is focused on tackling the affordability crisis, and will be a tremendous asset to the Citizens Board.” With her background and experience in public service, Cumber’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to address the pressing issues facing the state in the realm of property insurance.

Leanna Cumber expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve on the board: “I’m honored and humbled to have the trust of Speaker Renner to serve on this critically important Board of Governors. Property insurance is on the mind of every citizen in our state. I look forward to serving the people of Florida.”

Eye sends a Wink to Speaker Paul Renner for this appointment. Ms. Cumber will serve the state well and hopefully will be a catalyst for fixing the problems with rising home insurance costs. We wish her well.
