We are happy to report the District Deal is closer to construction. The developer – Elements of Jacksonville – has closed on the JEA owned land next to the Duval County School Building in San Marco. The 30 acre parcel was purchased by Elements for $18.5 million.
The developer is happy to be on this side of the development stage where construction can go vertical and Jacksonville taxpayers can enjoy the part they played in funding this visionary project. We are all partners with Elements of Jacksonville.
We never did agree that the taxpayers should be on the hook for millions of dollars but the deal is done and now we want to see it completed and everyone win. If the District is successful, it will certainly change the landscape of downtown Jacksonville. We wish them all the best and mucho success!
We hope JEA will do the right thing and pay down debt with the monies they received in this land sale. They paid a lot to ensure the land was ready for sale and the rate payers deserve to recoup those expenses.
