Mayor Donna Deegan wants to nearly double the amount of money taxpayers spend on keeping the grass mown and edged.
“This really a big deal,” she said today at a photo op.
Deegan wants to increase the budget for mowing and edging public land in the city from about $11 million to $21.7 million.
The contract mowing cycles, which currently can vary from nine times a year to 21 times a year, depending on the location, would be put on a 21 times a year cycle, along with edging 21 times a year, according to News4Jax. Local parks would be mowed 36 times per year and fertilized four times per year.
Litter cleanup and landscaping also are part of the effort,
At 840 square miles, Jacksonville is a big city and keeping it presentable isn’t cheap. But most people probably would agree the alternative isn’t attractive.
