An old discredited claim is revived again by a former First Lady

Michelle Obama, who never was proud of America until it elected her husband, continues to show her hatred for the nation even after leaving the White House.

“Y’all are still running from us,” she said recently, voicing the theory of “white flight” that liberals have been propounding for decades.

The theory claims that white people fled central cities for the suburbs as the black urban population grew, because of racism.

Obama used Chicago as her example. Fox Nation host David Webb offered his own explanation for why white families left Chicago.

“Economic flight is what drives it,” Webb said. “If a black man could afford to leave a bad neighborhood or a black woman could afford to leave a bad neighborhood, they do that. We see this all across America, but here we see the race-baiting game.”

Webb has it exactly right.

Because more white families had higher incomes, they were the first to flee the crime and congestion of central cities.

Thousands of people fled New York City for the suburbs following World War II to settle in places such as Levittown on Long Island, considered the prototype of “suburbia” and the American dream.

Anyone who looks honestly at the census figures can see that black flight followed white flight as black family incomes rose.

In Jacksonville, for example, neighborhoods such as Lake Forest, Sherwood Forest, Arlington and Cedar Hills had virtually all white residents in 1960 — and by 2010 were almost all black.

People can live anywhere they choose and can afford, as Webb noted. When they choose to live with others of the same skin color, liberals call it “segregation,” which is nonsense. Only a government can impose segregation, as many Democrat controlled cities did in the 1960s.

For reasons that are obscure, Democrats enjoy a voting bloc among black voters today and seek to perpetuate it by constantly pitting people against each other on the basis of skin color, as Obama and her husband sought to do so often.

But it is a losing game. Black voters increasingly are recognizing the condescending nature of those efforts and are making other choices. That and the growing number of interracial families are going to make efforts to divide Americans futile eventually.

Politics is often ugly, and never uglier than when such tactics are employed.
