Shocker: Democrats claim politics is involved in legislation

Democrats are whining, crying and protesting but they have been unable to stop a bill that finally curbs some of the excess powers of public sector unions in Florida.

A bill sponsored by Rep. Dean Black of Jacksonville has cleared committees in both houses of the Florida Legislature and is on third reading and likely enactment into law.

The Paycheck Protection Act would eliminate payroll deduction of teacher union members, thus requiring them to pay their dues directly to the unions eliminating a cost to taxpayers and allowing union members to reflect up the costs.

It also increases the requirement of a vote for union representation from 50 percent to 60 percent, meaning a larger part of the workforce has to want union representation.

The bill also calls for independent audits of union finances annually.

All of the changes are designed to increase accountability from labor organizations, according to Black.

It would affect most larger public sector unions such as the teachers and health care workers. It exempts first responders.

Liberals complain the measure has political overtones, as if that never had been a consideration in the decades Florida residents suffered under Democrat control of the state government.

Today, with an enlightened electorate, Florida Democrats are at their lowest point in modern history. No Democrats hold statewide office. DeSantis won re-election last fall by the largest margin in a Florida governor’s race in four decades, and Republicans have a wide superiority in voter registration.

As a result, the liberal media throughout Florida is in a constant state of outrage and bluster. Newspaper editorials and news story/editorials every day complain about what they see as a deplorable situation in a state that leads the nation in almost any measure.

Before he has even announced as a presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis is being slandered daily by the media, who seemingly would support Josef Stalin for president rather than DeSantis.

It is, in short, a great time to be a Florida resident.

One response to “Shocker: Democrats claim politics is involved in legislation”

  1. A couple of issues with this legislation: First: The “cost” of payroll deductions is very small (1 cent), many Unions pay a fee to the local Government Agency they are employed by to have payroll deductions. Should the government charge the United Way, Cancer Society, Red Cross etc. when employees make payroll deductions to support these worthy organizations.
Second, what does increasing the threshold to 60% really mean and why. Politicos are elected with 50% + 1, want to change that to 60% – meaning a larger part of the electorate wants a certain individual to hold office?
    Just thinking and asking.
