John Baker
Dr. John S. Baker, Jr. is Professor Emeritus of Law at Louisiana State University Law
School and currently is Visiting Professor of Law (via Zoom) at Peking University
School of Transnational Law.
Dr. Baker holds a J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan Law School, a
B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Dallas and an earned Ph.D. in political
philosophy from the University of London.
Dr. Baker was Visiting Professor at the Georgetown Center for the Constitution from
2013 to 2020 and a Fellow at Oxford’s Oriel College from 2012 to 2014
Dr. Baker has lectured or taught in 17 foreign countries, including on two Fulbright
awards. He co-taught in China with Justice Alito in 2016.
Dr. Baker has worked in all three branches of the federal government, as well in
prosecutorial agencies of a state and a local government. He has tried 42 criminal jury
trials. For over 25 years, he co-taught a course with the late Justice Scalia on
separation of powers.
