Head of union under investigation suddenly retires

Longtime teachers union boss Terrie Brady has retired, Eye on Jacksonville has learned.

Her retirement comes weeks after the FBI served a search warrant on the office of Duval Teachers United, the union Brady led.

The union had no comment about the raid, saying it was “respecting the integrity of the process.”

Brady has been head of the union for 25 years. The union has been active since 1974.

Media reports speculated that the FBI was probing financial wrongdoing.

Heads of teacher unions in Dade and Broward counties have gone to prison during the past 25 years for financial wrongdoing.

Teacher unions act as a conduit for money that comes out of teacher paychecks and goes to Democrat Party candidates. In turn, Democrats who get elected typically vote to increase government school funding, including increases in teacher pay.

Eye received the following statement from Brady.

“After more than 40 years in public education and a rewarding 30+ year career with Duval Teachers United (DTU), I have retired from my current position as president to spend more time with my family. It has been an honor to serve DTU, and I am confident the organization will continue to strengthen our public school system, enabling our members to provide the best education for all students in Duval County.”
