Ron DeSantis went to the right person.
Adding Susie Wiles to his campaign to become governor is the best move he has made to date.
The liberal media is flagellating DeSantis for his allegedly “floundering” campaign.
A poll allegedly found him behind the socialist candidate who is reported to be under a criminal investigation.
As the night of Nov. 8, 2016 showed, polls mean little. Votes matter.
Wiles is the master at producing votes.
I’ve known her for 20-plus years. She has been the chief administrative officer for the mayor of Jacksonville and a political strategist of the first order. Her career began working with Jack Kemp and later she worked with President Ronald Reagan. When I became an editorial page editor, she was working with the late U.S. Rep. Tillie Fowler.
As a consultant, she is credited with putting Rick Scott over the top in 2010 and was a major factor in Donald Trump’s 2016 Florida campaign.
What makes her effective is her uncanny ability to focus a campaign and candidate on a strategy with a simple yet powerful message.
Her smile belies her toughness. When the liberal media made a pathetic attempt to link her husband to the Russian Collusion Delusion, she shut up reporters with:
“I did not and would not participate in something that hurt the campaign, the government, the president, or the country.”
Actually, her own account at Linkedin says it all:
“I am a seasoned communications, political & government relations professional with more than 20 years of proven results at the national, state and local level. For better or worse, I have enormous capacity, love variety and thrive under pressure. Above all, I cherish the opportunity to make a difference.
“In a career that’s taken me from the White House and Capitol Hill to corporate boardrooms and City Hall, I’ve learned firsthand how government works and things get done, and I’ve had a chance to make it happen. That broad and practical knowledge, combined with my ability to turn situations and perceptions around, is probably my greatest asset, and I thoroughly enjoy putting it to work to help like-minded candidates, clients and partners succeed.
“Currently, I wear two hats. I’m the Jacksonville managing partner of Ballard Partners, Florida’s largest government affairs firm. Along with media personality, philanthropist and former Jacksonville Jaguars great Tony Boselli, I’m also a principal in Right Coast Strategies, a public affairs and direct marketing PR firm headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach.”
DeSantis obviously is the best choice for governor but not necessarily a shoo-in with the liberal media bashing him daily and out-of-town money from well-heeled socialists backing his opponent.
I don’t know what Wiles will do to counter all that, but we will know within a month, and it could be the difference.
