Former Mayor Brown calls for “gun control.” That’s not the issue, sir.

Another day, another “mass” shooting. This time in Jacksonville.

The usual responses: We must find an answer. March in the street. Protests.

And, of course, the liberal agenda.

This time, it came from former mayor Alvin Brown. More gun control.

If you had to make a list of things NOT to do, that would be at the top of the list.

If anything, less gun control might have mitigated the violence Sunday at the Jacksonville Landing.

Sane people with guns might have stopped the insane shooter early in his rampage.

This happens almost every day. Go to YouTube to see many examples.

The shooting also is not a black mark on Jacksonville. The shooter and many of his victims were from out of town.

It may, however, work to the advantage of the politicians who are trying to shut down and tear down the Landing.

The venture had a few good years after it was first built but never has reached the potential that was hoped for by civic leaders. The causes for that can be debated.

Mass shootings in a public place in the heart of downtown are not what Jacksonville residents want to see but the search for “answers” is likely to be fruitless.

It also is difficult to see why the shooting of 15 people at one time is a greater problem than 75 people getting shot in individual cases over one weekend, which happened in Chicago recently.

The problem is not guns or “society” or any of the usual suspects. It is human nature and mental instability. There are likely no “solutions” to either.

If we have a sufficient number of police and private guards where it is needed, we have done our best. Stemming the flow of violent people across our borders also would enhance security.

It is likely someone will want to form a committee to find “answers,” (and that none will be found), but in the meantime:

Be aware.  Be careful. Be safe.
