No one can accuse the local government of moving with undue haste.
They are being extremely cautious in responding to Eye’s requests for information.
Providing the public with basic information from public records is so arduous, apparently, that they are moving at all deliberate speed required to produce information suitable for an annual report rather than a news outlet operating on a 24/7 cycle.
We anticipate the information will be extremely accurate and comprehensive, however.
In the interim, we have advised the mayor’s Task Force on Open Government of the situation. We will see from their response, if there is one, whether they are part of the solution or part of the problem (if there is one).
When she created the task force in February City Council President Anna Brosche said, “…government has a responsibility to represent the people and the people’s interests and ensuring an open government is a basic building block to effective government.”
As we wait for the government agencies to carry out that responsibility, we are formulating several hundred other questions about local government that we plan to ask.
One is likely to be, “Why does it take so long to get answers to simple questions?”
