You’ve seen the commercials with the dogs crying real tears and the animals locked in cages or tied up with a noose around its neck.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), one of the country’s most prominent animal welfare groups, has been on our TVs and social media for years asking for donations to save the animals. And one thing is certain, people respond to animals in troubles or in abusive situations.
Now news is coming out that a newly formed think tank called the Center for the Environment and Welfare (CEW) has launched a media campaign to expose the ASPCA for sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars, including millions in offshore Caribbean accounts, while only allocating 2% of its budget to pet shelters. CEW accuses the ASPCA of focusing more on enriching itself and promoting a radical political agenda rather than helping animals in need.
CEW’s media campaign includes a national TV ad, a radio spot, and digital ads on Twitter and Facebook. The campaign aims to educate the public about the ASPCA’s true agenda while encouraging them to donate to local shelters instead.
CEW’s report reveals that the ASPCA had $390 million in revenue and $575 million in assets in 2021, with $11 million in offshore accounts. The CEO of the ASPCA earns nearly $1 million annually, and 259 employees make six-figure salaries.
Local shelters are hurting for donations while it appears the ASPCA makes major dollars off their marketing strategy. Where is the money going? Why aren’t local shelters getting more help instead of the ASCPA hoarding money in offshore accounts?

The ASPCA defends its efforts, stating that its mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and that all of its work is dedicated to rescuing, protecting, and caring for animals in need. However, CEW’s media campaign and report have raised concerns among animal lovers and shed light on the ASPCA’s financial practices and political agenda.
