Rep. Jason Fischer of Jacksonville posted what he thought was an innocent and informative post about Mt. Rushmore on Facebook. In today’s hypersensitive and largely ignorant world, it turned out to be a beehive.

Fischer posted something written by a person named Tara Ross, quoting President Calvin Coolidge at the monument’s dedication.

It was an inspirational speech, praising the American spirit as reflected by the memorial.

Several liberals weighed in immediately via comments.

“Return the land and vacate the premises,” railed one keyboard warrior.

“Stolen land,” glowered another.

“…are you weighing in on the topic of misappropriate culture, history and lands?” another asked.

“Ever heard of the Lakota, you festering pile of white privilege?”

Americans with some knowledge of history responded, with perhaps the clincher being: “We’re told Mount Rushmore has to go because it’s on land we stole from the Lakota tribe. What they forget to mention is that the Lakota tribe stole it from the Cheyenne, who had stolen it from the Kiowa. Yet our “theft” from thieves is supposed to be some great injustice. “

This is somewhat typical of the level of discussion going on in America today between normal Americans and people who have been brainwashed through public education and the media.

The facts are that some people wandered onto the continent from Siberia some 10,000 years ago. They lived on it, warred with and enslaved each other, but never improved their standard of living or advanced civilization until Europeans arrived.

But liberals who hate the current inhabitants of America took it upon themselves to rewrite history and make the meeting of the two cultures a Greek tragedy of some kind. They make ridiculous claims about “genocide” and other imaginary events.

Fischer was taken aback.

“It’s become a fight between civilization and anarchy,” he told Eye on Jacksonville, which he traced to the takeover of public education by radicals decades ago. (Fischer once served on the School Board.)

The danger is that the Facebook monopoly will start flagging and blocking conservative American ideas and ideals as “hate speech,” so that the only voices heard of those from the left, magnified by a biased and partisan media.

The myth of the noble Indian as victim of savage whites is just one of those successfully implanted in the minds of many Americans during the left’s efforts to paint all of white America as racist – except, of course, the kind and caring liberal brand.
